ABOUT THE SHOW:

The primary goal of the Liberty's Kids TV series is to provide 7-12 year olds with a fresh and exciting experience of the extraordinary period of 1773 to 1789 in American history.

Through the eyes of two young apprentice reporters named Sarah and James, viewers of Liberty's Kids will go on adventures in search of the real stories of the American Revolution. Sarah is a proper British girl right off the ship from England and James, a fifteen-year-old apprentice, sees things from a cocky colonist's perspective. They meet famous historical figures such as George Washington, plus other figures that should be, like Phillis Wheatley - a published poet while still enslaved. Although the setting is Colonial America, Liberty's Kids' characters find themselves in the middle of a revolution that confronts issues that still fill the newspapers today - gun control, downsizing government, lower taxes, freedom of the press, and race relations.

Sarah and James are followed around by eight-year-old Henri, a spirited immigrant from France. Moses, a former slave who freed himself, watches over them for his employer, the remarkable Benjamin Franklin, with whom we travel to Europe as he fights for recognition and assistance for the young nation.

The entire show is produced using high quality animation and creates an exciting world that today's kids can jump into and discover the real stories of the incredible time that gave birth to the United States of America. Liberty's Kids offers caretakers, from parents to teachers, an extraordinary resource through which they can share with young people the inspiring stories, characters, and values at the heart of America's great experiment in democracy.

Characters:

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
Voiced by respected journalist Walter Cronkite, Benjamin Franklin is one of the most prominent and famous people in American history. There was no greater celebrity in his day for both his wit and wisdom. Considered the quintessential man of his time, Franklin wears many different hats including inventor-scientist, printer, politician, ambassador, and treaty maker. In Liberty's Kids, Franklin is the fun-loving, but stern grandfather figure to the main characters Sarah and James.

Benjamin Franklin is a wonderful example of the great people involved in the creation of revolutionary America. As an inventor, author, musician, statesman and leader, he helped guide the formation of America. In Liberty's Kids, Ben's wise words and strong principled actions give guidance to our young heroes whether he is with them in Philadelphia or writing from across the ocean in France. He also lives life with a twinkle in his eye and is never afraid to look a little foolish in the name of having some fun

Sarah Phillips

Fifteen-year-old Sarah Phillips is bright-eyed and strong-spirited, just arrived from London as a guest of Benjamin Franklin's. She waits for the day her father returns from the American wilderness to reunite her family in this great new land. Sarah is a loyal British subject who finds James' rebel viewpoint irritating and decides to cover the stories of the revolution with him so that the British perspective is given. Sarah believes in equal rights for all people and is never shy about speaking her mind. Ever!

Henri

Henri is an eight-year-old street urchin, who has been semi-adopted by Moses and James who rescued him from a ship. Henri sleeps in the barn behind the Print Shop and helps out with errands to pay for his keep. Henri is curious, fearless and always ready for some good food. Although he sometimes gets them into trouble, more times than not, Henri's small size is an asset to James and Sarah. He has a knack for squeezing into small places and finding out information.

Moses

Born in West Africa, Moses was brought in chains to America and sold as a slave with his brother. Over time he taught himself to read and be a blacksmith. He secretly saved money by doing odd jobs for neighboring farmers until he bought his own freedom. Moses traveled to Philadelphia where he found employment taking care of Benjamin Franklin's printing press. Moses has an iron will and needs it, for when Ben's not in town, he's in charge of keeping James, Sarah and Henri safe. No matter how much trouble they get themselves into.

I'd really like to get the box set but I haven't seen in Canada yet but I'm hoping that when two new stores Target and HMV come here that I might be able to order at one of them.
